RUTH EVELYN DRANE ROGERS Sterling- Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Drane Rogers, 92, of Rock Falls, died May 22, 2010 at Monroe Hospital in Monroe, WI. Ruth Evelyn Drane Rogers was born October 22, 1917 in Sterling, the daughter of Robert and Evanna Fry Drane. She attended Wallace School and graduated from Sterling High School class of 1935 with high honors. She married Edgar C. Rogers, and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1983. She worked at Lawrence Brothers Hardware and for her husband in E. C. Rogers' Trucking, and then for her daughter in R. E. Rogers' Trucking & Excavating. She was a home room mother, and an assistant Brownie leader. She loved Iris quilts, reading, and travel, especially with a trip back east to follow her heritage. Her great-grandfather Uriah Harting fought in the Pennsylvania Infantry in the Civil War while his wife Evannah Benner Harting brought their children by covered wagon to Whiteside County for safety. Then on to Canada, she followed her fathers migration from Framlingham, England with the help of his oldest brother that was living in Canada. Then working on the expanding railroad system, her father came to Sterling. She was a miracle pancreatic cancer survivor thanks to the Monroe Hospital and Clinic, and surgeon J. C. Penhos, MD. She is survived by her daughter, Ruthie E. Rogers, Jr., and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and nine siblings, Mary (Mame) Harry Wiker, Harry Drane, Clifford Drane, Ernest Drane, May Blossom Frank Reitzel, Buster Drane, Fanny Paul Brotheridge, Russell Drane, and Jake Drane. A heart-filled thank you is extended to her dear friends, Frank and Joyce Yeoward and family, Ruth Schenck, Leonard and Anita Gilbert, Lyle and Betty Eichelberger, and Duane & Nancy McCune. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 1:30 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Judd of First United Methodist Church in Sterling officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Whiteside County Senior Center.
