Sally Kay Canas, 59, of Rock Falls died at CGH in Sterling on Friday May 13, 2022. She was employed as an RN at CGH for over 15 years and was recently nominated for The Daisy Award for extraordinary nurses.
Sally was born on March 4, 1963 in Sterling IL, the daughter of Paul and Mary Abell. She married Oscar Canas on July 1, 1999 in Sinton, TX.
Survivors include her husband Oscar Canas; her children, Kerrey (Arianna) Duarte, Kristin Casillas, Alex Casillas, Alysia (David) Garcia, and Kristin Canas; Five grandchildren, Nicholas, Sadie, Evaeh, Chloe, and Corbin; three brothers, Paul Abell, Peter Abell, and Jeff (Stacey) Abell. One sister Diane (Rosendo) Garza, and her nephew Nathan Garza.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Mary Abell, her nephew Nicholas Garza, and her cherished pets Vivian, Buster, and Jack Canas. Sally loved gardening and dreamed of being a master gardener. She loved to laugh, going to fan conventions, seeing her friends, and camping with her husband and family. She was truly kind, always looking out for everyone. She was a best mother, a best wife, a best sister, and a best friend. She especially loved spending time with her family and beloved cats Lily and Kai, along with her grand-dogs Watson and Winter Duarte.
In respect of Sally’s wishes there will be no funeral services. Please do a kind gesture in her memory.
