Sandra Pauline Russell, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Rock Falls, Illinois, on November 15, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on August 13, 1941, to John and Grace Minor in Sterling, Illinois, Sandra graduated high school in Milledgeville, Illinois, before attending Northern Illinois University. Her life was a blend of creativity, humor, and love. Sandra was the devoted wife of the late Roland Russell, her partner in life, with whom she shared many beautiful years. Together, they raised their family in Rock Falls before embarking on a bold adventure in Austin, Texas, eventually returning to their Illinois roots.Sandra was a loving mother to her three daughters: Karen McCormick, Shelby (Lonnie) Crady, and Nancy Mayoral (Marcos Montanez). She was the proud grandmother of Andrea (Sean) Madigan, Samara Russell, Ben (Amanda) McCormick, Haley Mayoral, Jacob Mayoral, Karley Crady, and Avery Mayoral, and the cherished great-grandmother of Jalen Brushaber, Sam and Evelyn Madigan, Tyler, Aaron and Carter McCormick. Her family was her greatest joy, and her sharp wit and sass kept them all on their toes—often delivered with a twinkle in her eye and a loving smile.Sandra was a creative powerhouse with a love of crafting. As a member of the Petunias Dixon Quilt Group, she spent countless hours in her sewing room transforming fabrics into stunning Halloween costumes, quilts, and other treasures that will be cherished for generations. Her baking skills were equally celebrated; birthday cakes, Thanksgiving Pecan pies, gingerbread houses and Christmas cookies were family traditions remembered fondly by all who were lucky enough to enjoy them. Her recipes and traditions live on proudly through her family. Known for her humor and charm, Sandra had a knack for making people feel special. Her sass always came with a dose of love that brightened every room she was in. Her kindness, generosity and sharp sense of humor made her a friend like no other. A private graveside service will be held for her family at Oak Knoll Cemetery. Sandra’s memory will forever be cherished by all who were lucky enough to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor her by baking cookies, sewing a quilt, or simply sharing a laugh with someone you love.Sandra’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported them during this time. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for her humor, creativity and love that knew no bounds.
