SARAH GERALDINE HATTON WINTER HAVEN, FL - Sarah Geraldine(Gerry) Hatton, 96, formerly of Sterling, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Brookdale Senior Living Center. Sarah was born August 1, 1915 in Hollywood, CA, the daughter of Walter and Thelma (Overturf) Spangler. She graduated from Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee in 1937, where she was a member of the Phi Delta Lambda society. After graduation, she joined the faculty at Olivet where she taught piano and music. Later, she obtained an Elementary Education Degree from Northern Illinois University and taught in the Sterling Public School System for 22 years. She married Dr. H.C. Hatton on June 21, 1941 in Ottumwa, IA. Along with her husband, she served the First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling for 46 years and ministered as a teacher and musician. After retirement, they made their home in Winter Haven, FL where she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years. Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Jerry) Beard, of Boise, ID; one son, J.D. (Carol) Hatton, of Winter Haven, FL; and two grandsons, Tyler (Amy) Woodcook,of Boise, ID and Chad (Lauren) Hatton, of Winter Haven, FL. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Thelma. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 5, 2011 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 AM, Friday, prior to services. A memorial has been established.
