Scott Besse

FREEPORT- Scott W. Besse, 53, of Freeport, died Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. Scott was born on June 14, 1961, in Rock Island, the son of William and Lois (Buerkman/ Matteson) Besse. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1979, and graduated from Iowa State University in December of 1984. He married Lora Jenkins of Boone, IA on August 31, 1985. Scott’s career was in the agricultural sales industry, and his last employment was with Bayer Crop Science as a District Manager. Interest and hobbies included family, farming, hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and sports with his children. He was an active member of Faith Community Church in Davis, Illinois. Scott loved God, his family, career, and sports. Survivors include his wife, Lora; his father, William; one daughter, Casey Besse, of Freeport; one son, Tyler Besse, of Freeport; two brothers, Gary (Denise) Matteson, of Davenport, IA, and Steve (Laura) Matteson, of Sugar Grove, IL; nephews and niece by Gary (Denise) Matteson include Thurlow Matteson, Erich Matteson, and Kim (Matteson) Burnett. Scott is now resting in peace in heaven with his mother Lois Besse, and unborn son, after a yearlong battle with adrenal cancer. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 11:30 AM at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling with Senior Pastor Bob Kolb of Faith Community Church in Davis IL, and Pastor Ralph Taylor of Indian Grove Country Church, in Rock City, IL. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 10AM to 11:30 AM, prior to the funeral. A memorial has been established. Condolences may be sent to www.schillingfuneralhome.com.
