Stanley D. Williams passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the age of 82. Stan was born March 9, 1927, in Sterling, IL, the son of Earl F. and Bertha H. (Killmer) Williams. He married Arlene (Dolly) R. King on August 30, 1947 in Dixon. Stan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. During his 27 years with the Church, he served early on as Bishop of the Sterling Ward and later enjoyed serving as a Sealer in the Chicago Temple. Stan began his career as a tool and die machinist with Hayden Moore Machine Works in Sterling following his graduation from Sterling High School. He then served two years in the U.S. Army overseas during World War II. Following his return home he continued his career as a master machinist at Hayden Moore where he eventually became foreman until his retirement in 1992. As a father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Stan is remembered as a generous, kind, and loving person who devoted his entire life to the care and support of others. He was known for his cheerful nature, winning smile, and charming sense of humor. Survivors include, one son, Jeffrey L. (Julie) Williams of Powder Springs, GA; one daughter, Connie D. (Kenton) Machina of Lexington; three grandsons, Jason P. (Chantell) Williams of Las Vegas, NV; Jeremiah J. Williams of Memphis, TN, and Jesse O. (Brenna) Williams of Springville, UT; and one granddaughter, Karen L. Williams of Draper, UT. He was a great grandfather to Jacob, Taylar, and Skylar Williams of Las Vegas, NV and Meghan J. Williams of Springville, UT. Visitation will be held from 4 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Schilling Funeral Home, 702 1st Ave., Sterling. The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2709 16th Ave.,Sterling, with Bishop Bill Stocks officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
