VERNA "TOMMIE" BIERMAN STERLING - Verna "Tommie" Bierman, 89, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at her daughter's home in Sterling. She was a foster parent for the Department of Children and Family Services for many years. Verna was born May 24, 1923 in Wills Point, TX, the daughter of Sewell and Tennie (Daniel) Huff. She married Fremont "Budd" M. Bierman on December 31, 1944 in Phoenix City, AL. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2007. Verna was a member of the Church of Christ in Sterling. Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Merle) Heckman of Sterling; two sons, Dan (Jeanne) Bierman of Alachua, FL, and Steve (Kay) Bierman of Long Boat Key, FL; seven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters; two brothers; and one granddaughter. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Church of Christ, with Joe Puckett of Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM, Sunday, at Schilling Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the CGH Health Foundation or Shults-Lewis Foundation (a children's home).
