PROPHETSTOWN- Vivienne I. Gowan, 98, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Good Samaritan Prophets Riverview. She was employed as an elementary school teacher at many local schools for over thirty years, retiring in 1994. Vivienne was born May 14, 1916 in Johnstown, NE, the daughter if George and Ivera (Hamilton) Hamaker. She married Dewey Gowan on December 29, 1935 in Rock Falls. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1990. She was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Rock Falls. Survivors include, one daughter, Sheila (Jim) Werlan of Sterling; four sons, Reverend Samuel (Louise) Gowan of Winter Haven, FL, Ron (Carol) Gowan of Rock Falls, Les (Priscilla) Gowan of Green Valley, AZ and Tim (Vivian) Gowan of Rockford; one brother Frank Hamaker of Eugene, OR; and many grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Gowan, eleven brothers, and sisters, one grandson, Brian Gowan, and one great-granddaughter, Leslie Gowan. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 10 AM at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, with Pastor Roger Carlson, of Berean Baptist Church, Rock Falls, officiating. Burial will be at Coloma Township Cemetery, Rock Falls. Visitation will be from 6 PM to 8 PM, Monday, December 22, 2014 at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Berean Baptist Church, Rock Falls and First Church of the Nazarene, Sterling. Condolences may be sent to schillingfuneralhome.com.
