Wesley “Wes” Rudolph Yarbrough, 77, of Forestville, Maryland, died February 11, 2025 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Washington, D.C.. Wes was born November 23, 1947 in Adele, Georgia, the son of William and Lucinda (Tanner) Yarbrough Sr.
Wes was a graduate of Sterling High School and was an accomplished athlete. He attended Sauk Valley Community College the first year that it opened and played on its first basketball team. After attending Sauk Valley for that one year, Wes was drafted into the military. Wes served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years. After his time in the Marine Corps, Wes worked as a government contractor until he retired.
Wes is survived by five siblings: Three sisters Carrie Carr of Sterling, IL, Hazel Davis of Seal Beach, CA, and Annie McGee of Moreno Valley, CA.; Two brothers Robert Yarbrough of Camden, NJ, and Curtis (Edie) Yarbrough of Dixon, IL. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Wesley didn't have any children of his own, but he had a godson, David Jackson. He had two nieces, Kori Vaughn and Tasha Yarbrough, whom he mentored throughout their lives.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and five sisters.
Homegoing service will be 12:30PM Saturday March 8th, 2025 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Visitation will be 11:00AM - 12:30PM prior to the Homegoing service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, IL.
A memorial has been established.
