WILBUR EUGENE “GENE” COURTRIGHT WESTMINSTER, CA- Wilbur Eugene “Gene” Courtright, 80, formerly of Sterling, died Monday, October 26, 2015 at Long Beach VA Medical Center, Long Beach, CA. Gene was born August 9, 1935 in Coleta, the son of John L. and Gladys (Rice) Courtright. He married Brenda Scherbinske on March 31, 1984 in Sterling. He served in the Navy Reserves and the United States Army. Gene was employed for forty-five years as a machine repair technician at Moore Repair Shop, RB&W and Penberthy. He was a member, head usher, board member and greeter for twenty years at First Church of the Nazarene, Sterling. Gene was also past commander of the Sterling American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Courtright and sister-in-law, Julie Carey, both of Westminster, CA; daughter, Lori Moore of Sterling; one brother, Fred Courtright of Dickson, TN; one brother-in-law, Harold Rohde of Wichita, KS; one grandson, Michael (Ashley) Moore and one great-granddaughter, Olivia, all of Chicago, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Edna, two sons, John and James and one daughter, Jane in infancy. Gene was a prayer warrior and a Christian gentleman who exuded his faith with passion and grace, a shining example for all who met him. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at First Church of the Nazarene, Sterling with the Reverend Bob Hasselbring, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 PM Tuesday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
