Dean Ahlstrand

Dean K. Ahlstrand, 54, passed away, December 13, 2018 at Banner University Hospital in Phoenix, Az.

    He was born November 30,1964 in Sterling,illinois and was welcomed into the home of Wallace and Donna Ahlstrand at the age of 13 days on December 13,1964.  He graduated from Missouri Military Academy in 1982 and entered the US Army with the rank of Corporal. He was partners with his parents in ownership of the Corner Tap in Rock Falls for 18 years before moving to Arizona in 2006 and working for U.S. Airways.        

    Dean was an avid sports fan (GO CUBS) and participated in baseball for years.  He was inducted into Missouri Military Academy sports hall of fame after graduation and had thrown a no-hitter with one walk during his senior year.  He loved being challenged by his grandson Peighton on sports trivia .                  

    Dean is survived by his mother Donna of Sterling, his children CoDaniel (Mary) of Rock Falls, Erika(Thomas) Gabbard of Milledgeville, Morgan of Sterling and Paige of Ohio,Il. He had eight grandchildren Peighton and Bentley Ahlstrand, Elektra,Brielle,Anabelle and Eila Gabbard and Steven and Charleigh Of Ohio. He is  also survived by two sisters Valerie Todd of Sterling and Crystal Brown of Kansas City,Mo, numerous nieces, nephews cousins and great friends from both Arizona and Illinois and his beloved Chocolate Lab rescue dog Wrigley.

    Dean was preceded in death by his father Wally in 2005 and both paternal and maternal grandparents.

    Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday December 21, 2108 at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation, with Rev Jeff Coester of First Congregational Church, (of which dean was a member of) officiating. Visitation will be Thursday December 20, 2018 from 5PM-8PM,  and Friday December 21, 2018 from 9AM-11AM prior to the Funeral, at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation. 

    A memorial will be established in Dean’s name for Missouri Military Academy.

    Dean was both a recipient of and a donor to Arizona Organ Transplant and Tissue Bank Network.
