STERLING- Ross T. Jennings, 83, of Sterling, died Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Javon Bea Hospital, Rockford. Ross was born June 2, 1938 in rural Hettick, IL the son of Robert and Dorothy (Tipps) Jennings. He married Marlene Metzka on June 6,1959 in Wilmington, IL.
Ross served 30 years as an Illinois State Trooper, District 1. He also served in the Illinois State Police V.I.P security detail. Ross was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church in Sterling for 50 years. He enjoyed restoring cars, especially his 1920 Ford model T race car, and was a member of the Wheelmen's club where he built and rode high wheel bicycles.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Sterling; one son Mark Jennings of Sterling; two daughters Kimberly (James) Wimmerstedt of Millstadt, IL and Mellissa (Christopher) Pierson of Bradington, FL; two sisters, Sharon (Donald) Stetz of Minneapolis and Carol (Willie) Love Braidwood, IL; two brothers, Larry (Chris) Jennings of Sterling and James Byron Jennings of Bradington, Fl; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation rites have been entrusted to Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation, and services will be held at a later date.
