Obituary of Marie Pontsler

Marie Pontsler, 102 of Sterling, died Thursday July 21, 2022 in Sterling. Marie was born April 18, 1920 in Rock Falls, IL. She was the daughter of Elmer and Helen (Reeser) Woods. In June 1935 she became a born again Christian, saved through the blood of Jesus. She attended and graduated from the Open Bible Institute in Des Moines, Iowa in 1943, where she met and married Reverend Gerald H. Pontsler August 15, 1943. She served with her husband pastoring two churches Mt. Peasant Iowa and Kewanee Illinois. Prior to Bible College she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and played in the orchestra. Survivors include her husband of 78 years; two daughters Jerri (Peter) French of Arcadia FL, and Joni (Dennis) Haag of Rock Falls; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11AM Wednesday July 27, 2022 at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, with pastor Dalmus Meeks, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral, from 10AM-11AM, and burial will take place at Oak Knoll immediately following. A memorial has been established to Harvest Time Bible Church.
