Obituary of Gary Hinrichs

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gary Hinrichs, 73, of Prophetstown, died December 12, 2022 at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa FL.  Gary was born March 12, 1949 in Sterling, Il the son of Robert and Betty (Buck) Hinrichs.  He married Debra Walker on August 16, 1965 in Rock Falls.

Gary enjoyed Drag Racing, Funny Cars, fishing, and showing his SSR at car shows. He always had a helping hand for anyone in need, and if he wasn't working on something, you could always find him on the water. Most of all he loved his family, enjoyed spending time with them, and teasing his great-grand-daughter Eleanor. Gary worked too much, fished too little, and left us too soon.

Gary spent 28 and a half years at Northwestern Steel and Wire and then worked with his son at Hinrichs Plumbing & Heating.

Survivors include his wife Debra; one son Shane Hinrichs of Prophetstown; one daughter Michelle (Chad) Betz of Rock Falls; two sisters Jill (Gary) Jackley of Rock Falls, and Sue (Jerry) Bender of Rock Falls; four grandchildren Taylor (Jacob) Ruchotzke, Mason Hinrichs, Matthew Hinrichs, and Cade Betz; one great-grand-daughter Eleanor Ruchotzke.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Larry Hinrichs, and Tommy Hinrichs.

Visitation will be 4PM-7PM Tuesday December 20, 2022 at Open Door Community Church (First Baptist Church) in Sterling. Funeral services will be 10AM Wednesday December 21, 2022 at Open Door Community Church, and burial to follow at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
