Obituary of Jim Prescott
James “Jim” L. Prescott, 90, of Sterling passed away Thursday March 30, 2023 at Resthave Care & in Morrison. Jim was born July 6, 1932 in Sterling the son of George and Nettie (Drago) Prescott. He married Peggy Stanley on December 30, 1956 in Rock Falls. She preceded Jim in death on May 16, 2013.
Jim was captain of his basketball team at Rock Falls High School, graduating in 1950. He served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954, after which he was a retail businessman for over 60 years in the Sauk Valley Area. Jim was a former President of the Rock Falls Chamber of Commerce, member of the Sterling Rotary for 25 years, former President of the Sterling Boosters Club, past board member of the Rock Falls National Bank, Sterling Park Board member, and Co-Don of the Fiesta Day Celebrations.
Jim’s commitment to his community was surpassed only by his love for his family. Survivors include three sons James L. (Sherry)Prescott II of Rock Falls, Patrick (Diana) Prescott of Newark OH, and Peter (Deanna) Prescott of Sterling; one daughter Jackie (Norm) Prescott-Adell of Sterling; former daughter-in-law Tammie Prescott; eight grandchildren Katelyn Prescott, Austin Prescott, Jacob (Natalie) Prescott, Colin (Abbie) Prescott, Emily (Ben) Hall, Lynsey (Gavin) Jensen, Alexandra (Eric) Prescott, and James Adell; six great-grandchildren Jackson, Anthony, Lydia, Cora, Mason, and Elliot.
In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Dick Prescott and Bob Prescott; half-brother Danford Prescott; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins who provided loving care to him during his childhood, following the passing of his parents.
Funeral services will be 11AM Tuesday April 4, 2023 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Visitation will be Monday April 3, 2023 from 4PM-7PM at the funeral home, and Tuesday one hour prior to services from 10AM-11AM. Graveside services and burial will be at Riverside Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
