Obituary of Carl Witmer

   Carl J Witmer, 75, of Cape Coral, FL died suddenly on December 26, 2022 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Ft. Myers, FL. Carl was born on Sept 19, 1947, the son of Carl B Witmer and Frances (Sawyer) Witmer.                                                                                                             Carl graduated from the Kendall School of Design in the Advertising Program on May 15, 1969.  He went into the Army and served as an MP at Fort Bragg, NC until August of 1971.                                                                                                                                                               He eventually trained and became a journeyman plumber and steamfitter with the Local #25 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in Rock Island, IL. Carl was employed by John A Loos & Sons in Sterling until retiring and moving to FL in 2003. Carl was an avid boater, golfer, and Harley rider and a great friend to SO MANY people.                                                                                                                                                 He is survived by his wife Linda (Mabrey) Witmer; one daughter Brooke Witmer of Sterling; two sons Josh Witmer of Janesville, WI, and Jason Witmer of Dixon, IL;  one step-daughter Jessica Love of Sterling;  6 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren.                                              Visitation will be 10AM-12 PM Friday June 2, 2023 at Schilling Funeral Home, 702 First Avenue, Sterling, IL 61081. Graveside service immediately following visitation at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, 18268 Pennington Rd.                                                                                              From there to Moonlight Bay Marina and Restaurant at 1552 Mound Hill Rd., Sterling for food, friendship and memories.                                In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to captainsforcleanwater.org.
