  Leona Mae Van Zuiden, 96, of Sterling, formerly of Morrison, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023, in Sterling.  She was born December 21, 1926, in Morrison, daughter of the late Howard J. and Myrtle Katherine (Zuidema) Workman.  She married Alvin Van Zuiden on December 21, 1944, in Sterling; he preceded her in death on October 18, 2008.  

   Leona was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and hand quilting.  Leona made each of her children and grandchildren a hand-quilted quilt for her family to cherish and enjoy for years to come.  She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church.  

   Survivors include her children, Janice (Neal) Woessner of Oswego, David (Brenda) Van Zuiden of Texas, Kevin (Judi) Van Zuiden of Wisconsin, Russell (Leanne) Van Zuiden of Rock Falls, and Marla (Randy) Bland of Winnebago; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

    She is also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachel Van Zuiden; one sister Dorothy Wagner; and three brothers, Arthur, Kenneth, and Lowell Workman.

   Funeral service will be 11AM Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Schilling Funeral Home, 702 First Ave., Sterling. Visitation is from 10AM-11AM one hour prior to the service, and burial will take place at Oak Knoll Memorial Park immediately following.   

   A memorial has been established.
