Obituary of Evan Moore

Please share a memory of Evan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Evan Matthew Moore, 81, of Sterling, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling. Evan was born November 26, 1941 to Haden M. and Jessie (LeFevre) Moore.  Evan attended Sterling Schools and graduated from Sterling High School class of 1959.  He was a graduate of Stoute State University (now U.W. Stout, Menominie). Upon graduation he joined his father Haden in the family business, Moore Machine Works, and was later joined by his brother John, until retiring in 2004.

Shortly before retiring Evan became involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Ilinois, and purchased a limousine to provide rides to airports and hospitals for Make-A-Wish families. Make-A-Wish and Evan were a perfect match, exemplifying Evan’s love for children and his never-ending gift of giving. When Evan was invited to a Make-A-Wish Christmas party cruise on Lake Michigan, he met and fell for the Make-A-Wish Travel Coordinator, Susan Plucinski. They were married on June 24th, 2006 at Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford. Together Susan and Evan provided rides and made many memories with nearly one hundred Make-A-Wish families over a nine-year period. Evan’s gift for giving was shown in many ways to many people over the years. It all flowed from the love of God in Evan’s heart for people. In 2014, Evan had a dream to build a house for a wounded warrior family, and with the help of many dedicated people, he did. In 2015, the Shoemaker family moved into their brand new home in Harmon, IL. Evan was a humble man and would never seek credit for the many wonderful things he did. It is said, “humility is happy to rely on God and quick to give him the credit for all that’s accomplished!”

Later in life Evan enjoyed involvement in classic cars and car shows with their 1933 Buick tribute to Marshall Field and Company. Evan was a dedicated member of Abiding Word Church in Sterling and was water baptized there on November 26, 2011.

Evan is survived by his wife Susan (Plucinski) Moore, one nephew Justin (Ashley) Moore, and cousins Bud LeFevre and Bill LeFevre.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Judith A. Moore, and one brother John H. Moore.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday September 9, 2023 at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation, Sterling, with the Rev. Dr. Scott D. Porter of Abiding Word Church, officiating. Visitiaton will be an hour and a half prior to the service, from 9AM-10:30AM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling.
