Obituary of Stephen A Deckro

Please share a memory of Stephen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Stephen A. Deckro Jr., beloved husband, father, and attorney, peacefully departed this world on November 1, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born on February 14, 1940, in Valparaiso, Indiana, the eldest of five children born to Stephen and Mary Deckro.

Stephen graduated from Valparaiso University and School of Law. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves.

In 1964, Stephen established his estate planning and tax law practice in Morrison, Illinois, where he would go on to serve his clients and community for nearly six decades, including his tenure as City Attorney of Morrison, Illinois. In 2014, he was awarded the esteemed title of Distinguished Counselor by the Illinois State Bar Association. He attended the Morrison Christian Church, where his faith was an important part of his life.

Stephen's legacy lives on through the family he cherished. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sheryl. Stephen was a devoted father to three daughters, Stephanie (LT), Sarah, and Sydney (Kevin). In addition to his immediate family, Stephen treasured his four grandchildren: William, Michael, Vienna, and Vaughn.

Stephen is survived by his brother, John (Mary Jo), and sister, Valeurie. He leaves behind many dear sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, brother, William and sister, Mary Katharine.

Stephen’s sharp wit and dry sense of humor remained with him until the end. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.

Arrangements for a Celebration of Life are pending.
