As a child and young adult I remember coming to Haag family reunions and enjoying one particular character that was always larger than life, warm and kind, and with his camera in hand to capture the memories. That was uncle Rob, actually my GREAT Uncle Rob and of course father of Donald Haag. After Uncle Rob’s passing, I got to know Don better, a first cousin of my father Allen Haag. It was always a joy to catch up with Don at family reunions as he was so personable and genuine, just like his father. He shared his genealogy research with me and gave me a “Family Tree Maker” on CD several years before Ancestry.com was available online. Later Don’s son, my second cousin Denny generously added to my collection of old family photos and documents, of which I am so grateful. Beyond having the awareness of the innate value of knowing our ancestors, Don tapped into a greater mystery of life, that of knowing the Creator of all souls! Don was an unashamed follower of Jesus Christ. Don’s wisdom was not only great because of his longevity, but it was unsurpassed because he honored Yeshua as the one and only Saviour of the world. Along with everyone else I will miss Don immensely, but find solace and even joy in the anticipation of the final, amazing and everlasting family reunion to one day come!

The last vivid time I saw my favorite Uncle Don, he came out our front door in Topsfield, Ma. and said “Your Dad bought it.” which at 32, I realized meant he’d died and I’ve thought about that moment so many times since. He must have been so affected by knowing his Brother, Bob had passed on, it just came out that way. He was always so nice to me and I felt he and Aunt Roberta were the perfect couple. Please give her and my Parents my love, Uncle Don. And thank you.
