Obituary of Ralph Collins

RALPH L. COLLINS DIXON- Ralph L. Collins, 101, died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Dixon Health Care in Dixon. Ralph was born October 19, 1911 in York, PA, the son of Charles and Edith Sollenberger Collins. He married Sylvia Buie in Nov. 1943 in Rock Falls. She preceded him in death in 1989. Mr. Collins was employed in the nail room at NWSW before his retirement. Ralph enjoyed golfing at Emerald Hill and Lake View with golf buddies, Al, Ernie, and Charlie, and many others. They also traveled to Deer Valley, Silver Ridge, and many other courses. While in High School he loved playing football, was captain of the team and known as "Kid Collins". He also enjoyed listening to music and playing backgammon. Ralph lived with his granddaughter, Sylvia Baker and his great-granddaughter, Shauna Baker. He is survived by two daughters, Connie Jean (Don) Miller of Des Plaines, IL and Connie Lou (Phil) Schneeberger of Oregon, IL; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Cook; a sister, Thelma Schaab; and a brother Cloyd Collins. Funeral services will be 4 PM Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, with Reverend Jeff Coester of First Congregational Church of Sterling. Visitation will be from 3-4 PM prior to the service, cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, at a later date. A Memorial has been established.
