Obituary of Shirley Swopes

SHIRLEY J. SWOPES STERLING - Shirley J. Swopes, 81, died Friday, November 25, 2011 at Coventry Living Center in Sterling. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for forty years. Shirley was born July 29, 1930 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Harold Brubaker and Martha Elizabeth (Jones) Newlin. She married Raymond Durwood Swopes on February 16, 1961 in Portales, NM. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2005. Shirley attended Grace Episcopal Church in Sterling. Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth (David) Rude, of Sterling; four sons, Pat (Tess) Camp, of Fisher, Richard Camp and David (Linda) Camp, both of Swansboro, NC, and Robert (Josele) Swopes, of Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Janet Doris, of Paris, IL; fifteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Roger; one sister, Linda Wright; and one brother, Walter Newlin. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, December 2, 2011 at Grace Episcopal Church with Reverend David Rude, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.
