CADET T. THORP STERLING-Cadet T. Thorp, 73, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at CGH Medical Center. He had a milk hauling business in the Tampico area, prior to serving as the Chief of Police in Sterling for twenty-two years. Cadet was born August 2, 1940 in Streator, the son of Harold T. and Hilda T.A. Thorp. He married Carman Aleen (Burr) on November 23, 1963 in Sterling at St. John's Lutheran Church, they just celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Cadet was a graduate from Flanagan High School, Sauk Valley College and Bradley University. He attended F.B.I. Academy, Quantico, VA. He served in the United States Air Force. Cadet belonged to the Illinois Association Chiefs of Police, International Association Chiefs of Police, Northwest Illinois Criminal Justice Commission and Northwest Illinois Law Enforcement Executive Association. He served on the Whiteside County Board and started and organized the DARE Program in 1987 and Organized Crime Stoppers. Survivors include his wife, Carman of Sterling and one brother, Brett M. Johnson of Pontiac. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 7, 2013 at 1PM at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, with Reverend Mark Oehlert, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 10AM to 12:45PM prior to the funeral at Schilling funeral home. A memorial has been established.
