STERLING- Carol Ann Hubbs, 75, of Sterling, died Monday, January 6, 2014, at First People's Hospital in Shanghai, China, having traveled there to attend a nephew's wedding. She was a teacher and a teacher's aide in the Sterling School District before retiring. Carol was born March 18, 1938, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Arnold and Marietta (Bienlein) Dierks. She went to Marycrest College and graduated with her degree in teaching. She married Raymond D. Hubbs, Jr. on July 27, 1963, and they celebrated 38 years of marriage together before his passing. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling. Carol lived life to its fullest with a passion for continued learning and adventure. She enjoyed practicing piano and learning French. Carol enjoyed the outdoors including: hiking, swimming, and gardening. She was an active member of Yester Year Questers and loved spending time with her friends and family. She had a love of the theatre and traveling to new places. Survivors include one daughter, Cara (Jacob) Pschirrer of Charleston; one son, Raymond (Melissa) Hubbs, Sterling; one sister, Marylou (Edward) Hughes, Dekalb; three grandchildren, Madison Hubbs, Braden Pschirrer, and Christine Pschirrer; three step-grandchildren, Brandon Kessler, David Gibbons, and Jescelynne Gibbons; and a close friend, Raymond Stockero of Milwaukee, WI. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister, Arnetta Perier. Funeral service will be at 11AM, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sterling, with Father Bruce Ludeke, pastor, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of cremains will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 3-6 PM, Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
