STERLING- Jan Gaffey, 63, of Sterling, died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at her home. Jan was born January 14, 1951, in Sterling, to Donald and Mary Lou (Morgan) Gaffey. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1969, and a graduate of Maranatha Baptist Bible College in 1973. She taught in private schools in Illinois, Florida, and Kansas. Jan loved sports and wherever she taught she coached, starting with her college basketball team. She then became a trainer for American Century Investments. Family was important and she loved her great nieces and nephews, Sesily, Jett, Owen, Evalyn, and Bella Gaffey. Jan lost her long battle with Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy (Parkinsons Disease) but continues by donating her remains to Rush Medical Center Research. Survivors include her parents; one sister, Pam (Allan) Hess, of Dixon; two brothers, Dan (Kim) Gaffey, of Sterling, and Stan (Kathleen) Gaffey, of Glen Ellyn; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one niece, Emily Gaffey. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11AM at Abiding Word Church, 6th Ave and Lynn Blvd, in Sterling. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10AM to 11AM. A memorial has been established to Gaffey Hospice Foundation supporting local hospice patients in the Sauk Valley.
