STERLING- Iola M. Hammelman, 95, died Monday, September 22, 2014 at Coventry Living Center. Iola and her husband, Raymond, farmed in the area for many years. Iola was born December 23, 1918, in Ustick Township, the daughter of Leonard (Emily Gruber) Bennett. She married Raymond L. Hammelman on August 3, 1941 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2013. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sterling. Survivors include one daughter, Rita Hammelman of Palmer, TX; one son, Frank (Virginia) Hammelman of St. Charles; two brothers Floyd (Janet) Bennett of Sterling, and Raymond Bennett of Rock Island; one sister Helen Coats of Ozark MO; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Alice Bennett, and Louise Hardy. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, September 26, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sterling with the Reverend Leo Patterson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 AM, prior to services at the church. A memorial has been established to St. John's Lutheran Church, Sterling.
