JANIS C. CARD STERLING- Janis C. Card, 70, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Janis was born December 3, 1938 in Tampico. The daughter of Donald L. and Jennalee S. Hunter. She married Richard "Dick" Card on July 3, 1955. He survives. Janis attended the Sterling Schools, graduated from Sauk Valley College and Northern Illinois University. She was the first student to graduate from Sauk Valley to become a Certified Public Accountant. She worked as an accountant for Clifton Gunderson Company for twenty years before opening Janis C. Card Co. in 1992. She served the Sauk Valley Chamber of Commerce in many capacities and also served on the finance committee of CGH for several years. Survivors include one daughter, Sue (Ron) DeJonge of Sterling; two sons, Sam (Kathy) Card of Sterling and Tom (Vickie) Card of Monroe, MI; one brother, Donald (Mary Jo) Hunter of Sterling; three grandchildren Valorie (Chris) Hicks of Milledgeville, Richard (Laurie) Card of Changchun China and Shannon DeJonge of Sterling; good friend, Joe Reed and three great grandchildren, Julionna, Reese and Tye Hicks of Milledgeville. Memorial service will be held at 10 AM Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Judd, pastor, of First United Methodist Church, Sterling, officiating. Visitation will be from 2-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial has been established.
