R. MAURICE MIATKE STERLING �" R. Maurice Miatke, 80, died December 6, 2009, at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. He was employed as an overhead foreman with Commonwealth Edison for 35 years. Maurie was born October 21, 1929 in Sterling, the son of Ralph R. and Mildred E. (Bellows) Miatke. He married Mildred Albrecht on May 8, 1949 at Leon Methodist Church in Prophetstown. He was employed as an Overhead Foreman with Commonwealth Edison for 35 years. He retired in 1987. Maurie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sterling. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose-Sterling Lodge #726 and a former member of the Sterling Rock Falls Jaycees. Maurie loved big band music and he had his own band. He also loved spending time with his family, hunting and golfing. Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of Sterling; four daughters, Susan (Brien) Carey, of Davis, Betty (James) Kunde, Lou Ann (Don) Schuldt, both of Sterling, and Rhonda (Bill) Frank, of East Galesburg; eleven grandchildren, Heather Schimmer, Peter Carey, Jason Weidman, Lucas Weidman, Frank Schuldt, Crystal Casper, Ember Schuldt, Joshua Frank, Erin Wade, Richie Frank and Makenzie Frank; two step-grandchildren, Christopher Kunde and Courtney Kunde; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Walck. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, with Reverend Paul Judd of First United Methodist Church in Sterling, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M., Tuesday, December 8, 2009 and from 9:30-10:30 A.M., Wednesday at the Funeral Home. A memorial has been established.
