Obituary of Nieves Cantu

NIEVES R. CANTU STERLING- Nieves R. Cantu, 88, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at her home after a short illness. She was previously employed at Harper Wyman and Lawrence Brothers. Nieves was born May 6, 1922 in San Benito, TX, the daughter of Manuel and Guadalupe Rodriguez. She married Guadalupe T. Cantu on May 12, 1943 in San Benito, TX. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1996. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Sterling and the Ladies Auxillary of the Latin American Club in Sterling. Nieves enjoyed being a homemaker, her grandchildren, music, dancing and going to the casino. Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Jim) Pitts of Queen Creek, AZ; three sons, Mario (Connie) Cantu of St. George, Utah, David (Marina) and Lupe (Liz) Cantu, Jr., both of Sterling; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Erlinda in infancy; two sons, Armando and Geronimo "Jerry" Cantu; Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10AM Saturday, June 26, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Reverend Juan Ayala, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be held from 3 -7 PM Friday with the Rosary recited at 6:30PM, at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. A memorial has been established.
