NELLIE JANE THORPE STERLING - Nellie Jane Thorpe, 79, died Monday, November 8, 2010 at Sterling Pavilion. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for many years and was also a Student Nursing Instructor at Whiteside Area Career Center. Nellie was born February 8, 1931 in Sterling, the daughter of Roy E. and Kathryn (Haak) Person. She married Russell E. Thorpe on October 26, 1968 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2000. Nellie was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling. Nellie graduated from Polo High School and from Swedish American Hospital nurses training. She served as a Trustee for Riverside Cemetery for several years and also as an Election Judge. Nellie was also a member of the CGH Woman's Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society, and Emerald Hill Golf Club. Survivors include one step-daughter, Ann (Steven) Kielas, of Farmington, MN; one step-son, Timothy (Valorie) Thorpe, of Grove City, OH; three brothers, Steven (Patricia) Person, of Dixon, Richard (Joyce) Person, of Polo, and Alfred (Shirley) Person, of Lanark; and five grandchildren, Katie, Kayla and Kristina Thorpe and Maggie and Michelle Kielas. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 12, 2010 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Reverend Nancy Weingartner, officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM, Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Schilling Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Wesley United Methodist Church.
