Obituary of Ruth Martens

Ruth E. Martens, 89, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 after a short illness. Ruth was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother. Ruth was born January 12, 1921 in Sibley, IA, the daughter of Otto and Hanna (Rust) Braun. She married Donald R. Martens on June 11, 1939 in Canton, SD. He preceded her in death on November 29, 1993. She was a member of Rock Falls United Methodist Church and the Rock Falls Women's Club. Among the many things Ruth enjoyed was chocolate, coffee, playing the organ, sewing, needlepoint, playing cards and many other games. Ruth was a "social butterfly" and was very loyal to all of her friends. Survivors include one daughter, Donna (Ronald) Hoffman, of Rock Falls; two sons, Vernon (Faith) Martens, of Chesterfield, MO, and Edwin Martens, of Florissant, MO; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 27, 2010 at Rock Falls United Methodist Church with Reverend Thomas Moe, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM, Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. A memorial has been established in Ruth's memory.
