Obituary of Clarence Lubbs

CLARENCE J. LUBBS COLETA - Clarence J. Lubbs, 87, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in Coleta. Clarence was born August 18, 1923 in Appleton, the son of Fred and Ada (Barber) Lubbs. He attended Coleta School and graduated from Milledgeville High School in 1942. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942-1946. Upon return, he married the love of his life, Mary Margaret Ballard on June 20, 1946. Together they built a home in Coleta and raised four children, Bonnie (David) Scoville of Lake Odessa, MI, Deborah (Onel) LeRoy of Coleta, Barbara (Kirby) Rodgers of Lincoln, and James of Coleta. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Dorothy) of Polo; and two sisters, Ann Rouse of Glendale, AZ and Jessie Bennett of Aurora. Clarence was a life-long building contractor in the area. He served his Lord in many leadership roles as a member of Coleta United Brethren Church and board member of Camp Adeline. In response to their love of missions, Clarence and Mary served a three-year term doing building and maintenance in Sierra Leone, West Africa and returned leading two short-term mission trips. He served his community as a Coleta volunteer fireman, Coleta school board member, Mayor and Clerk of the Village of Coleta, and a Whiteside County 708 board member. He was preceded in death by has wife Mary; his parents; one sister, Inez Tillman and one brother, Raymond Lubbs. Funeral services in celebration of Clarence's life will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Coleta United Brethren Church, with the Reverend Wilmer Houck, church pastor officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be held from 2-6 PM Sunday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling where the family will greet friends and relatives. A memorial has been established to Coleta United Brethren Church, Camp Adeline, or Huntington University.
