Obituary of Rodolfo Saldivar

RODOLFO "RUDY" SALDIVAR ROCK FALLS - Rodolfo "Rudy" Saldivar, 95, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Coventry Living Center in Sterling. He was employed at Northwestern Steel & Wire as a Machine Operator until he retired in 1977. He also owned Salvidar's Bakery in Sterling for 15 years. Rodolfo was born June 23, 1915 in San Benito, TX, the son of Rodolfo and Andrea (Delgado) Saldivar. He married Piedad "Pia" Rodriguez on December 12, 1933 in San Benito, TX. Rodolfo was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was also a lifetime member of the Latin American Social Club. He was honored as Don in 1990. Rudy loved gardening, fishing and dancing and enjoyed going to the casino. He also loved watching old time western movies. Rudy was good at carpentry. Survivors include three daughters, Ofelia "Mickie" Coffman-Shoffner, of Saugatuck, MI, Ernestina "Tina" Cantu, of Sterling, and San Juanita "Jane" Saldivar, of Rock Falls; four sons, Rodolfo "Rudy" (Joy) Saldivar, Jr. and Ernesto "Ernest" (Cheri) Saldivar, both of Warsaw, IN, Arturo "Art" (Diane) Saldivar, of Pierceton, IN, and Ronald Rodriguez, of Sterling; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; and nineteen great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Alice Saldivar, two sons and one daughter, in infancy, three sisters, Amilia, Guadalupe and Calistra Saldivar, and one brother, Manuel Saldivar. Celebration Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Juan Ayala, officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Friday, May 6, 2011 at Schilling Funeral Home with Rosary at 5:30 PM. A memorial has been established. Condolences may be sent to www.schillingfuneralhome.com.
