FREDERICK P. HAMMER MILLEDGEVILLE- Frederick Hammer, 95, died early Sunday July 24, 2011 at CGH Medical Center. Mr. Hammer lived on a farm all of his life. For 75 years, he farmed in the Milledgeville area and milked cows for forty years. He also enjoyed gardening. For twenty-five years, he was employed at Northwestern Steel & Wire Company. Fred was born June 25, 1916 in Emerson, the son of Frank E. and Belle Johnson Hammer. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling. When he was 17 years old, he worked at a CCC Camp in the State of Oregon. He is survived by nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; and great-great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers Grant and Gale Hammer; four sisters Ilah Hagerman, Myrtle Sayers, Bertha Howe and Stella Fletic. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, July 28, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Wednesday evening at the Schilling Funeral Home. A Memorial has been established to St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling.
