ROCK FALLS- Eugene D. McCarter, 84, of Rock Falls, died Monday, April 27, 2015. Gene was born on February 1, 1931, in Sterling, the son of Joseph and Marie McCarter. He married Marjorie Haak on November 19, 1955 in Sterling. She preceded him in death in 1981. He retired in 1992 from Northwestern Steel and Wire Mill. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Survivors include two sons, Terry (Sherry) McCarter, of Dixon, and Scott (Colleen) McCarter, of Sterling; three grandchildren, Melinda (Tim Morgan) McCarter, and Heather (Andre Criss) McCarter, both of Sterling, and Andrew (Dana) McCarter, of DeKalb; one great-grandson, Julian Rodriguez, of Sterling; and special friend, Pat McCarter. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Mildred Waters. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 11:30 AM at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, with the Reverend Ken Zuithoff officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 AM prior to the service. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the local Veterans Administration.
