Obituary of Gwendolyn Powers

STERLING- Gwendolyn “Tommie” Powers, 85, of Sterling passed away Saturday June 10, 2017 at Regency Care of Sterling.  

 Tommie was born July 14, 1931 in Success, Arkansas, the daughter of Frederick and Ruby (Chappell) Weatherford.  She married James S. Powers on January 20, 1951 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on January 8, 1972.

  Survivors include four daughters Darlene Powers-Palmer of Morton, Barbara (Tom) Kelly of Galesburg,  Cynthia Blickensderfer of Bloomington and Kerry Holst of Brisbane Australia; and one son Rick (Roxanne) Powers of Sterling; two sisters JoAnn Kenney of Rockford, Shelby (Warren) Hulbert of Montpelier OH; 14 Grandchildren; and 18 Great-Grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

  She was also preceded in death by two brothers Frederick and Dennis Weatherford; two sisters Joyce Lopez and Sara Hulmes.

  Funeral services is at 10:30 Thursday June 15, 2017 at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation in Sterling, with the Reverend Wesley Dickson, of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial is at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. Visitation is from 9:00-10:15 prior to the funeral service.
