Obituary of Gerda Annette Ukena

STERLING – Gerda A. Ukena, 85, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Rock River Hospice & Home, Sterling.

She was married to Herman J. Ukena who preceded her in death on October 3, 2011.

           Gerda was very strong in her faith and lived a Godly life. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sterling. She was known for her home cooked meals and generosity, often making meals for or offering a lending hand to family, friends and strangers. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and worked years doing home health care and volunteer work. She touched a lot of lives and had unconditional love for her family, who will miss her greatly. She had a great sense of humor and her mottos to live by were “Keep Looking Up” and “Speak Well of Others”.

           Survivors include three daughters, Margret, Linda and Helen; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one brother.

She was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 11AM, Monday February 12, 2018  at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Reverend Brandon Nelson, officiating.  Burial will be at East Genesee Cemetery, Sterling.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral from 10AM-11AM at the church.             

A memorial has been established.
