JUNE D. CALLIGHAN

 

PROPHETSTOWN- June D. Callighan, 102, formerly of Sterling, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society, Prophetstown.

    June was born June 30, 1915 in Sterling to Agard Victor and Alma Charlotte (Nelson) Sundberg. She attended Wallace School and graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1933. She was a member of the Federal Girls softball and basketball teams. She was employed as office secretary for the Sterling Gazette for many years and later for the Gary Hill Agency and Book and Klocke Insurance Company. She married Robert B. Callighan on July 21, 1963 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2000.     

    June was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served as secretary of the church council, for many years. Was a  member of Edith Eykamp Circle, Altar Guild and many other church committees. She was also a member of CGH Auxiliary, worked in the hospital gift shop and member of Insurance Women’s Organization.

    Survivors include one son, Skip Weaver of Clearwater, FL; one step son, Robert W. Callighan of Birmingham, AL; four grandchildren, Tristin Lumsden of Sherwood, AR, Michelle Thackerson, Robert D. Callighan and Amber Benson all of Birmingham, AL; eleven great-grandchildren, three special nieces, Cherie Miller, Dr. Beth Cummings and Patrice Heckert; five nephews and two nieces.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; one daughter, Jane Martin; four sisters, Lillian Sundberg, Arlene Sundberg, Fern Watt and Emily Cummings and three brothers, Paul Sundberg, Claude Sundberg and Dr. Robert Sundberg.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation, Sterling with Reverend Leo Patterson, officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM, prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling.

     A memorial has been established to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling.
