Obituary of Robert Simpkins

Robert Simpkins, 93, of Sterling, IL died, Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in Davenport, Iowa.  Robert (Bob) was born April 30, 1925 in McGee, Arkansas, the son of Robert Simpkins Sr. and Virginia Clark Simpkins.  Bob worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire for 33 years.  He was a longstanding member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon February of 1973.  He also served as Superintendent of Sunday school.

He married Phyllis Smith of Sterling, Illinois and was preceded in death by wives, Patricia Gulley and Ann Reed; parents; three  brothers, Fred Simpkins, Lewie Alexander, Larry Clark Simpkins; one sister Hattie Pearson.

Survivors include three sons, Robert “Bobby” Simpkins (wife Wandolyn) of Texarkana, TX, Richard Simpkins of Fremont, CA, Richard Jessie, five daughters, Laura “Elaine” Hunter of Mt. Kisco, NY, Elizabeth “Liz” Gulley-Criss of Roselle, IL, Terri Simpkins of Decatur, IL, Felicia Gulley of Sacramento, CA, Cynthia Mueller (husband Mark) of Davenport, IA, thirty-seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, six nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 10 AM with funeral service at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1313 Woodburn Avenue, Sterling,  with Pastor John Cooper officiating.  Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.
