Obituary of John L. Bruins

JOHN L. BRUINS

COLETA-John L. Bruins, 63,  died Monday, January 14, 2019.

    John was born January 28, 1955 in Morrison, the son of Norman D. and Helen E. (Wiebenga) Bruins. He married Bonnie Weckesser- Boyles on February 14, 1976 in Morrison. 

   After High School he worked briefly as a carpenter. After that, he went to work for Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling, IL, for 10 years.  He then began his career as a Cable Technician for Midland Cable, staying with then through the changes of hands to Triax Cable, then finally Mediacom, and retired in March of 2018 after 35 years.

   John loved life, his family and friends. He enjoyed long drives, nature, astronomy, and was an avid Star Trek fan. He was always up for an adventure, lively conversation and was a loyal "BFF", if needed. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.   

    Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Coleta; one daughter, Audra (Gabriel) Fairchild of Nashville, TN; two sons, Seth T. (Michael Johnson) Bruins of Sterling and Ian K. (Lisa) Bruins of Bloomington, MN; one sister, Becky (Mert Jones) Bruins of Erie; one brother, Bradley (Josanne) Bruins of Peru and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Thomas J. Bruins.

    Visitation will be from 4-7PM Friday, January 18, 2019 at Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation, Sterling. Memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Coleta United Methodist Church with Pastor Sophia Hyon, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.

    A memorial has been established.
