STERLING - Walter W. Cassens, 89, of Sterling, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Avonlea Cottages in Sterling. He was an engineer for Eureka Hearse for several years. He then was a supervisor at Borg-Warner for 20 years until his retirement. Walter was born January 20, 1923 in Sterling, the son of Ernest and Marie (Kophamer) Cassens. He married Edna "Lois" Parks on January 7, 1945 in Sterling. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2010. Survivors include two daughters, Marcia (Gary) Fields, of Sterling, and Barbara Koenig, of Metamora; one son, Larry Cassens, of East Peoria; one brother, Orville Cassens, of Prairie Du Chien, WI; four grandchildren, Katy (Chris) Barnett, Keith (Meribeth) Fields, Justin (Ashley) Moore and Christopher Jump; and five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Audrey Granzow. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Peg Williams of Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial of cremains will be at the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-10:45 AM, Saturday, prior to services, at the Funeral Home.
