Obituary of Barry Tompkins

Barry D. Tompkins of Dixon, Illinois, passed on from this life to the next on Thursday August 31st, 2023. Barry was on this Earth for 91 life-filled trips around the sun. He lived a full and rewarding life, and when it was his time to move on, he took his last breath at home surrounded by his loving wife, Marge, and his two wonderful children, Christy Falke & Craig Tompkins. His marriage to Marge was an inspiration to many and is a love that will continue to endure beyond the 71 precious years they shared together on this Earth as husband and wife. 

Those who had the privilege to know Barry experienced a man who left a lasting mark in each of their lives. He was the true patriarch of the Tompkins family, always protecting, always guiding, and most importantly, always showing unconditional love to those around him. The list of those he has touched in his life stretches multiple generations. His grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family will miss him dearly. When the doctor told him he was nearing the end, he chose to go home, smoke a cigar & have a martini on his deck overlooking the river he cherished, surrounded by the people that he loved.  

Oh, Captain, my Captain! Rise up and hear the bells; While you will be sorely missed, those of us who remain will carry the torch with honor. Every memory we have with you, every lesson you taught, and most importantly, the life you demonstrated lives on in the generations of family that carry on your enduring legacy.
