Obituary of Edith Gowan

   Edith Gowan, 99 of Rock Falls died October 10, 2023 at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison. 

   Mrs. Gowan was born in Walnut, October 11, 1923 to Eugene and Ella (Christensen) Moodie. She married Paul Gowan December 25, 1942 in Rock Falls and he preceded her in death on May 9, 1999.

   She was a switchboard operator at Illinois Bell and was a homemaker.  Edith and Paul farmed over 30 years in Round Grove IL. She was a member of the Sterling First Church of the Nazarene and was in charge of the luncheon and funeral dinners for many years.

   Edith loved her family and family get-togethers, especially the holidays, and enjoyed decorating her home for those occasions. She was a member of the Thimble Club, Whiteside County Home Extension, she enjoyed doing ceramics and visited residents at nursing homes. Edith and Paul traveled through many states in their motorhome. She will be greatly missed.

   She is survived by her children, Gloria Gowan, Allan (Debbie) Gowan, and Stephen (Mary) Gowan; six grandchildren Corey Gowan, Jammie (Luis) Nieves, Jake (Amy) Gowan, Josh (Jennie) Gowan, Chris (Mark) Krum, and Julie (Phil) Bielema; several great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

   The family would like to thank the staff at Resthave Nursing Home. 

   Edith was preceded in death by her husband Paul, two sons Larry Gowan and Marlin Gowan. Two sisters Edna Olds, and Evelyn Johnson, one brother Elmer Albus Jr. 

   Funeral services will be 10AM Saturday October 14, 2023 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, with Pastor Dennis Owens of the First Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 9AM-10AM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls. 

   A memorial has been established to the Resthave Home in Morrison.
