Obituary of John Alden Lawrence

John Alden Lawrence, 87, died Thursday, September 15, 2016 at his home. He was the CEO for Lawrence Brothers for over twenty years, prior to retirement. John was born August 20, 1929 in Sterling, the son of Edwin F. and Hellen (McKenney) Lawrence, Jr., he married Shirley Schmitt on September 24, 1946 in Washington, KS. John’s greatest joys in life were his wife, children and grandchildren. He was involved in many successful business organizations and was most proud of being the Chairman of the committee that put together the property for the Sterling-Rock Falls YMCA Camp. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Andrea Lawrence Wood of Denver, Co, Gayle (Scotty) MacLaren of Whitefish, MT and Julie Chippendale of Encinitas, CA; one son, Jay (Sarah) Lawrence, Jr; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Lynn Hill and one brother, Edwin F. Lawrence III. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation, Sterling. Graveside services will be private. A memorial has been established to the Sterling-Rock Falls YMCA Camp.
