Obituary of Shirley E. Nye

SHIRLEY E. NYE MILLEDGEVILLE- Shirley E. Nye, 91, died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at CGH Medical Center. Shirley was born March 1, 1925 in Clinton IA, the daughter of LeRoy and Laurine (Hardersen) Warehime. She married Homer Nye on January 21, 1945 in Milledgeville. He preceded her in death on October 7, 1990. She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Milledgeville, a 50 year member of the Order of The Eastern Star, and a proud cancer survivor of 26 years. Homer and Shirley sponsored several Rotary exchange students throughout the years. Shirley loved to travel, play golf, but her greatest love was her family. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara (Ivan) Miller, Janet (Andy) Barkley, Donna (Randy) Landis, all of Milledgeville and Kathy (Lauren) Nye of Baltimore MD; one son, Gary (Le-Anne) Nye of Chadwick; two brother-in-laws Owen (Melva) Nye, and Dan (Lois) Nye both of Milledgeville; ten grandchildren, Wayne (Anne) Goellner, Jill (Josh) Wiley, Melissa Nye, Tom (Stephanie) Barkley, Steven (Jessica) Barkley, Jarod (Corinne) Nye, Josh (Carrie Rowland) Nye, Kali (Ed) Livengood, Kara (CJ) Wade, and Kurt (Stephanie Stienmetz) Landis and a number of great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, David Nye; one daughter-in-law, Deb Nye and two granddaughters Amy Nye and Julie Goellner. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Milledgeville with the Reverend Jamie Gallagher, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church and from 9-10 AM, Wednesday, prior to services, at the church.
