Bill and Carol are 2 of the kindest people I know! They welcomed me and my children into their family with so much love! It’s hard to mention one without the other because they are a perfect pair. I loved the way they looked at each other, how they adored their beautiful family, they were honest, inquisitive, thoughtful and generous.
The first time I met Bill and Carol was at a U of I game- I felt I’d known them for years. Bill always seemed to pay me the sweetest compliments- “you’re a great mom”, “you make Billy so happy” and “we love you.” I saved their B-day songs on my voicemail. Bill taught my son several card games and built a snow fort him and Will in CO. Bill and Carol sent cards for every holiday to all their grandchildren including mine.
Thank you for welcoming me into your family. Thank you for creating your incredible son! I promise to love him forever and we will remember both of you always! Bill was looking forward to seeing his favorite girl again! Hope you’re together- the perfect pair!

I have so many amazing memories of my Dad. Many are of family trips, especially to Florida in 1974 and Colorado in 1976 when Becki and me were still pretty young. There were shorter trips, especially the ski trip to Wisconsin with the Sprouls and the Burchs, and the family ski trip we took to Colorado when I was in the Navy in 1990 and both my Mom and Dad took me to the Denver airport on Christmas Day, so I could fly back to Norfolk and get on the USS Roosevelt (CVN71) as it headed over to the Persian Gulf for the first war with Iraq. We didn't know what to expect. Speaking of my time in the Navy I'll never forget my parents being at the pier in Norfolk in 1989 when the Roosevelt came home from its first 6 month deployment. That was an amazing surprise.
There's all of the Illinois football games, family outings to Cubs games, the first White Sox game at Comiskey Park he took me too, the fishing excursions, camping trips, the list goes on and on. He and Mom gave all of us kids an amazing life and I know they are both proud of all of us, but we wouldn't be who we are without them.
I'll love and miss them for the rest of my life.

I'm 51 years old and attended East Coloma school from K-8. MR.Chapman to this day, and until the day I leave this world will always be referred to as MR.Chapman. He was like a 2nd father to all of us who attended the school, and was one of the greatest men I've ever known. We are who we are today largely in part of his guidance and discipline that he taught us growing up. There are not enough words to describe the respect and admiration that I will always carry with me for him. The world is a lesser place having lost him. RIP MR.CHAPMAN, and if things go as they should, I'll see you again one day...

I am very proud to say that I was a student and struggling athlete of Bill Chapman. Bill saw more in my athletic potential than I did and helped me realize my potential in Junior high. This work and encouragement allowed me to participate in three sports a year in high school and also football and track at a small college in Iowa. The photo is of our successful 1973 season team. We were not expected to accomplish much that year but Bill's guidance and coaching allowed us to earn second place in the conference and also in the post season tournament. His natural leadership and sincere concern for every young person he ever met were the ingredients of the aura of his personality. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his many friends, students and neighbors. God Bless his reunion with his wonderful wife Carol.

Mr. Chapman was my favorite teacher I ever had all the way through my schooling. He was also my track and field coach. Most of all he was a great person that East Coloma was so blessed to have had on their staff. He also taught my 4 sisters and brother.

Mr. Chapman was not only a great teacher in mathematics and phys ed, but also a great mentor. I remember him, and his wife Carol fondly from Saint Mary’s in Sterling. Years later when I attended a reunion at East Coloma, I was so happy to see him and catch up. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

I knew Bill for a very long time, while my children attended East Coloma School and considered him a very good friend well after they went on to Rock Falls High School!
He was a great teacher, coach and administrator there at East Coloma.
He was very supportive of the City of Rock Falls and Rock Falls High School.
Good man, father, uncle and grand parent, so will be sorely missed by many, many people!
R.I.P. Bill

Mr. Chapman was a great teacher and coach to many at good 'ole East Coloma School. More importantly, he was a Mentor and Role Model to many because of his strong moral character. He defined the school that he loved and taught at for 35 years. When many of us reminisce about their years there, Mr. Chapman is always in the forefront of all of our memories. Thank you for being such a positive influence of so many young lives. Rest easy my friend!
