Many of my childhood memories and most certainly some of the most memorable ones were of get-togethers, picnics and parties we shared with Uncle Chuck, Aunt Joan, Dave and Rod. The most memorable Uncle Chuck story is from one of our winter snowmobile get-togethers. I think my parents were having a winter snow party and everybody was running around in the dark on snowmobiles and Uncle Chuck was wearing his signature white snowsuit that made him look like the Abominable Snowman. The river usually froze thick enough to go out there, but there were always a few places near the edge where it stayed soft. Out of the dark a dripping wet, muddy Abominable Snowman appeared on foot; Uncle Chuck had gone off the bank in a soft spot and crashed through the ice, fortunately getting only wet and muddy but not hurt. I am sure my Father had a great time teasing Uncle Chuck about it--they were best friends and that was a story he loved to tell.
I also have Uncle Chuck to thank for teaching me to play softball. I'll never forget trying to hit his "Dark Ball". Or the Halloween parties where the grownups would all wear masks and play party games with us; and ping pong in the basement and fun in the swimming pool at The Island. These are the memories my childhood is made up of, because Uncle Chuck and Aunt Joan took time with my parents to talk and play and have fun with us.

My most sincere condolences to all of your family. I was honored to have known Uncle Chuck and cherish many a fine memory of our interactions. He cut a very striking figure in his white snowsuit and made the best snowballs. Though he may no longer field my long distance phone calls, his voice will forever fill my ears. All my thoughts are with you Aunt Joan, Dave and Rod. Love James
