I have so enjoyed reading all the stories. Robbie thank you for posting the picture. I can remember Mom getting all of us ready and away we would go to Keithsburg. We would have so much fun visiting with all of the Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. I remember the laughter, hugs and kisses, and the food. My God, they cooked and cooked and was the very best. And, you guys know we were all as poor as church mice. I wish I could be there with all of you. I would so like to plan a family reunion.

My Dad, Robert Lee "Bob" Chapman passed away at age 86, ten years ago today. He retired from Northwestern Steel & Wire Co. (worked at the P.A. in Rock Falls) in the early 1980s and was a Service Manager for Myers' Ford in the 1950s and early 1970s, after 31 years with Ford. My stepmother and Dad lived on Harbor Drive off Dixon Avenue for about 27 years. This picture was taken in Dixon at a Chapman family reunion in 1991 (almost 20 years ago) when Dad was 76. These were the living Chapman brothers then (5 of 8) from left to right :
Dad (he was the Big guy of the family), Uncle Ralph (who passed away in 1993), Uncle Forrest (living in Rock Falls and almost 93), Uncle Howard (who lives in Dixon) and Uncle Basil Dean (living in Rock Falls).
Today is also my brother Donald D. (Donnie) Chapmans birthday who passed away of colon cancer in 1988 at age 49. Donnie graduated from RFHS in 1957 (the year I was born) and would have been 72 today.

Rob Chapman That's the family curse on Mom's side. I was almost the next one. But, I was blessed. Then it took Bobbi's son (my Nephew) Scotty last year at age 47. I sure do miss Donnie. He was my Hero when I was a kid. Even more than Bill.

Rob Chapman I remember Uncle Doug well. I remember when they came and got Dad, when your Dad was killed. One of the few times I ever remember Dad having tears in his eyes, besides when he had to tell us kids about Mom passing away that Saturday morning in October 1968. Life doesn't seem fair sometimes, at least not for everyone.

Jean Harfst Yep Grandpa had horses up at the barn on top of the hill. Remembering him letting us grandkids ride 3-4 at a time whenever any of the boys brought there families to Keithsburg. Memories are great things....

Rob Chapman I remember Grandpa's mules. He always said don't go near them. And we didn't. I can remember ringing hogs with grandpa and Dad too up there.I remeber Aunt Lanie and she must have been 100, it just seems that way ?

Jim Chapman I remember my dad and Uncle Bob ringing the noses of two hogs that Grandpa was raising for the season for a little money. I had no idea my dad even knew how to do that since we had never lived on a farm. Lots of squealing from the pigs. But this was before electric fences were affordable, and Grandpa was getting up there in years. This was when Grandma & Grandpa lived up on the hill in Keithsburg.

Rob Chapman It's hard to believe I remember a lot of that stuff, I am a little younger than some of the family. I remember when Rick was born. I remember when they brought him home from the Hospital when we lived on College Avenue inAledo. Rosie always tells me there is no way I can remember those things but I do. Donnie had that old `54 Mercury Convertible there behind the garage. He was in the Marine Coorps then. I charish a lot of old memories. And cry over others.

Jean Harfst Sounds like it... The Chapman cousins are lots of ages - 8 boys means lots of kids - does anyone know how many Chapman cousins there really are ???

Jim Chapman Not exactly, but has to be over 50.
I don't know all the children that Archie and Arthur had. I found out from my dad that Archie had one more wife than I had heard about and that he had a son that was killed in a car accident many years ago...See More
