We are not called to do everything, to heal everything, to change everything, but only to do what God asks us. --Walter Wink--
I remind myself of this quote when thinking "If only I could turn back the clock." Back to the 60's - the times our family spent weekends at Verlyn and Bert's. Back to staying up very late playing games, spying on our parents through 2nd floor air vents, recording our parent's conversations, playing them back, everyone laughing hysterically - all done at Veryln and Bert's. Many good times of laughter, food, and fun! How ironic it's been that over the past several weeks I found and watched five old video tapes recorded by Veryln - tapes of gatherings, weddings, anniversaries, holidays, reunions and old plow days. Hearing Veryln's voice behind the camera. Watching Bert as she lovingly waved to the husband always running the camera. Listening to the little comments she made to him and always in awe of the things he video-taped, and oh he didn't miss a thing! Seeing their trailer with the hanging lanterns at campsites and thinking about all the good baked beans Bert made. Would like to share some words from some old letters from Bert from the early 70's. "I've thought many a time how lucky I was to have my sister-in-laws.I thank them from the bottom of my heart." "but in sickness or likewise, our kid's thoughts and concerns are mainly on us." "Debbie had a 8 lb 12 oz baby girl, Bethany Elizabeth." "Jan is still in his braceI'm so grateful it wasn't the back of his neck he broke. He'd either not be with us or crippled for life. It's an act of God that he fell on his front shoulders." Her letters were always signed - "Take care, we love you all! Aunt Bert" That about says it all! We will take care and we love you too Bert! --Cindy Cox Reeson (and family)
